Wyre Together was launched in June 2010 and now has over 110 group members. It is free to join and members are able to share information and work together on the priorities for Wyre. Wyre Together is managed by Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) and has a steering group to make decisions for the partnership and also a number of task groups to work on the agreed actions.

- Regular monthly newsletters are issued to all the Wyre Together members to ensure they are kept up to date on progress. Task groups take forward the actions identified by the members and a full meeting of all members is held every 6 months to identify issues and plan the way forward.
- Information about funding, events and partnership working is circulated to all members and included on the website (www.wyretogether.org)
- The 2010 Wyre Together Showcase Event was a great success with over 80 local groups coming along to publicise their work. The 2011 Wyre Together Showcase Event has been planned for November 2011 at Millfield Science and Performing Arts College and promises to be another successful event.
- The 2010 Wyre Together Awards provided recognition of the amount and quality of work being carried out by the voluntary, community and faith sector groups in Wyre.
- The 2011 Wyre Together Big Society Awards also demonstrated that the Big Society is already alive and kicking in Wyre
- We developed a Marketing your Organisation event which was facilitated by CVS (Council for Voluntary Services) and also held an event to provide an awareness of Social Enterprise requirements and opportunities
- A Volunteering Snapshot exercise was carried out in March 2011 and so many good news stories came out of the exercise that Wyre Together have produced a leaflet about volunteering which provides information on how and where to volunteer as well as case studies and myth busting
- We held an event called ‘What do the Spending Cuts mean in Wyre’ and this was an opportunity for the statutory organisations to explain the impact of the Governments cuts and how these may affect the local community and groups.
- We have carried out an evaluation of the Wyre Volunteering Bureau including the commissioning process and presented this to Wyre Council for consideration.
- The Wyre Together website has been a great success achieving over 37,800 hits in its first 12 months. The website includes member’s facilities such as the Wyre Pool and a Funding Blog to enable members to share information about events and opportunities and also how to contact other members.
- Wyre Together recently merged with the Wyre Stronger Communities Group and is now being recognised as a great communication and engagement tool. We work closely with Wyre Council to ensure local groups are represented and consulted on matters that are important to Wyre.

Why is partnership needed |
|
|
|
|
Community and third sector groups need to be ready to face the changes and challenges ahead and this become more evident recently following the change of government and the emphasis they are placing on the third sector to be involved in the Big Society agenda. We already provide a valuable resource in the community with local expertise and the ability to adapt to changing needs. With local Government cuts anticipated it is likely that some of the public services may be expected to be delivered by the third sector and we need to prepare ourselves now to be ready for this. Third sector = all voluntary, community, charity, faith sector, co-operatives, mutuals and social enterprise groups (any non-governmental organisations)

We need as many local voluntary, community and faith sector groups as possible to get involved in Wyre Together to make it a success and to create a credible, strong, and valued partnership that is included in consultations, engagement and communications and is recognised for the contribution it makes to the community.
